Susan Shiba
Susan has been riding horses for more than thirty-five years. She rode western and saddleseat as a kid. She learned to jump as an adult with a hunter trainer and then found her passion in dressage. Susan says she was always getting to a point in training wanting to do more but not knowing what. "Dressage would have told me," she says. "Every discipline can cross train with dressage, after all dressage is the art of training the horse and rider."
Susan trained her first FEI horse as an amateur under the tutelage of Debbie Bowman (USDF Instructor Certification Examiner) in the mid 90's. She became a professional in 1997 and established Roseate Dressage, Inc. in 1998. Since 2002, Tom Noone (2001 US World Cup team member) has been helping her progress to a higher level of skill as a rider, trainer and instructor. Her goals have always been and remain, to become the best trainer and instructor possible and continue to compete successfully at the FEI levels and to help her students reach those goals as well. Additional clinicians who have helped her on her quest are Stefan Peters, Axel Steiner, Max Gahwyler, and Volker Brommann.
Susan has been awarded both the Bronze and Silver Rider Awards. For more information on these awards, select "Awards for Riders" which is a PDF file on the USDF website.
Susan volunteered with the Houston Dressage Society as chairman of Education (1995-1996) where she organized symposiums with internationally recognized clinicians and judges. She was president of HDS from 1997-1998 when they were nationally recognized in "Dressage Today" magazine. Susan was a Region 9 delegate and Group Member Organization representative to the USDF conventions in 1997 and 1998 as well. She is always trying to promote dressage in Texas and Texas as a place for dressage, wherever she goes.
As a resident trainer at Isabella Farms, Susan has led her students to compete successfully at Region 9 events. As president of Roseate Dressage, Inc., Susan is committed to making dressage a bright and promising sport.
She continually puts a great deal of effort into making a training environment that builds goodwill as well as confidence in the horse and the rider. She strives to help people who want to better themselves in this fantastic sport.
