I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Susan Shiba's nomination for the USDF Region 9 Teaching Excellence Award.

I have known and worked with Susan and her students for the past 7 years. During this time, I have been impressed with Susan's dedication to both her own growth as a dressage rider, trainer, and instructor as well as her commitment to the growth of her students. Susan believes strongly in education and has a true desire to pass her knowledge to her students. She is a dedicated professional and an exceptional communicator and teacher.

I have personally witnessed the progress of Susan's students. I am always pleased with the improvement that I see when I work with Susan and her students during my monthly clinics in Houston. She is dedicated to the German principles of the classic training pyramid and this commitment has led to continuing development for both horses and riders. Susan leads by example and is gifted with the ability to inspire as well as teach her students. It is my pleasure to work with her and her students in the future.

Susan Shiba truly exemplifies "Teaching Excellence" and it is my privilege to recommend that she be selected for the 2009 USDF Region 9 Teaching Excellence Award.
