Dressage Resume

Basics:
Debbie Bowman, USDF Certification Examiner, made sure I had my basics. I first experienced Debbie Bowman's instruction via the Certification Workshops as a "guinea pig" rider. Her students had to think about their ride rather than direct all their movements. She let them learn through their mistakes by asking questions not by giving answers, just as my father had done for me. She became my mentor, teacher and guide through the levels with my Appendix Quarter Horse.

I have since trained and ridden several young horses at training level and first level scoring in the 70% receiving many high point awards. I also had the opportunity to train then ride the 4 year old stallion Fred Astaire during the Breed Show at Devon in 2002. Fred was then bought by Tom Noone and is now competing at the FEI levels with Tom.

FEI experience:
I have trained 2 horses from Training level through Intermediare 1 to competitions, schooling the expectations of Grand Prix. In doing so I earned the USDF Bronze and Silver Medals. Both of those horses were 9 when they started their dressage careers with me. I trained another horse from 3rd level through Prix St. Georges into competitions. I am currently preparing three horses for Prix St. Georges, one of which is a re-school and ready this year to compete. The others are new to PSG and expected to be ready to compete next year at PSG.
Symposiums:
Axel Steiner FEI 'O' Judge "The New Dressage Tests (second level demo rider in 1995 on Mornin' Promise, my Appendix QH, and 3rd level demo rider in 2003 on Capriccio, my Dutch gelding) Axel woke me up to real dressage when I organized and rode for him in the first large scale HDS sponsored symposium. He reamed me. It was clear in 2003 I had learned something when he came back and I received compliments from him and auditors.

  • Clinics and Workshops:
  • Since meeting Tom Noone in 2002 I have taken at least two lessons from him each time he teaches in Texas. I spent two weeks in training with Tom in Florida the winter of 2004. During those two weeks I had two lessons a day and reviewed with his commentary the 2003 World Cup videos at night. Daily I would observe his training rides as he would explain the methods he used to develop each horse.
  • In 2005 I began riding with Volker Brommann because of his emphasis on relaxation to facilitate learning in the horse. I try to fit in as many lessons with Volker as are available when he comes to Texas.
  • In order to develop better skills in the competition arena taking lessons from FEI 'S' Judge Janet Foy has proven to be very beneficial.
  • I have had the opportunity to ride in clinics with Olympians Stefan Peters, twice, and Debbie McDonald, when they were here in Texas.
  • I audited the Jan Ebling Advanced Young Rider Clinic in 2008 and rode three different horses for him in 2009 at an open clinic.
  • I've also learned from FEI 'O' Judge Dr. Volker Moritz.
  • Dr. Max Gahwyler, following his symposium in Texas, returned to teach a series of clinics that I participated in.
  • Developed an Intermediare 1 Freestyle at Karen Robinson Freestyle clinic.
